Last Sunday was a special day for us, as we celebrated our son's Christening day with a party at home with family and friends. Luckily the sun came out and the rain stayed away - meaning lots of bouncy castle fun for the little ones, and drinks on the decking for the bigger guests.

When it came to planning the theme for the party, we were quite literally spoilt for choice, especially when our friends at Molly Meg and French children's party design studio My Little Day offered to send us everything we needed… SO much to choose from! We wanted a simple, bold and bright look and feel, so we chose turquoise stars on contrasting white ground - stylish, fun and magical with a splash of colour, just perfect for Jasper's special event.

We loved the 'blue stars' tableware collection by My Little Day, part of Molly Meg's fabulous party range. A stunning deep turquoise colour that is neither blue nor green, the simplicity of the design gives it a broad appeal to both children and adults alike: Having chosen the main theme and the tableware, we worked with the wonderfully talented Rachel Edwards of Oh Sugar! in Sheffield to design the cake, pictured in the main image above (and the image below).

We were absolutely thrilled with the end result. Not only did it taste AMAZING - so many of our guests commented that it was the best sponge cake they had ever tasted - but it looked even better than we could have imagined!  Rachel was so fabulous to work with too, with an incredible eye for design and an attention to detail to match. Next came the party decorations, and Molly Meg's collection by My Little Day had everything we needed to complement the theme. We hung turquoise and white paper honeycomb balls of different sizes above the cake table, and scattered blue paper confetti all around it. We also used the confetti to fill clear balloons, which we inflated with helium and combined with bright blue solid colours to create balloon bunches all around the party room: Little blue stars were suspended from the ceiling thanks to the adorable blue star garland which we hung in the middle of the room, with the matching blue bunting decorating the windows: Our stationery was created by Ashley at Personally Sweet Shop on Etsy - an adaptation of one of her gorgeous designs. We loved everything about the invitation she created for us, which worked so well with our theme and set the scene for the party just perfectly: And just in case you're wondering what the star of the show thought of it all himself, well, he loved the balloons; he was fascinated by the hanging decorations and he especially enjoyed the cake!

As for the Christening ceremony itself, we have taken away some very special memories of him dancing at the altar and - loving water as he does - enjoying every second of his baptism at the font. He may not remember it in years to come, but his little face said it all.
