DREAM CLOUDS AND ELEPHANTS 12 Dec

Dream Clouds and Elephants Grey and Yellow Nursery, nursery design by Bobby RabbitWhat do you get if you take a handful of elephants and clouds, throw in some smart grey and white and a hint of chevron, before adding a final splash of yellow…?

Well, today we're proud to present one of our very latest nursery creations, designed especially for adorable little Ashwin, born in May this year. And his bedroom is exactly that - a dreamy mix of soft grey and white accessorised with highlights of bright yellow, starring one or two elephants, a couple of clouds and some smart geometric stripes and chevron patterns to form the backdrop.

When Ashwin's mum Neetu approached us to help with the nursery design and planning, she was pretty sure that grey and yellow was the way to go. She liked some of the bold geometric patterns that she had seen on Pinterest, as well as the lovely cloud trend that is happening in children's interiors, and elephants were an absolute must... Pulling so many ideas together in a cohesive and co-ordinated yet eclectic way was the biggest challenge - and that's where Bobby Rabbit came in.

You may be wondering how something can be co-ordinated yet eclectic… It's very easy to buy into a complete, ready-made nursery collection to create a bedroom that is perfectly matched. Throwing a few different products together in the right way may be slightly more challenging, but it gives you endless potential to create a look that not only tells a story exactly as you want it to, but that is totally unique to you and your child. No matter how many products are part of that story - how many different colours, patterns or styles - it just works. Dream Clouds and Elephants Grey and Yellow Nursery, nursery design by Bobby RabbitCreating this look involved a lot of planning. As always, we started with the mood board to fine-tune the theme, product selection and colour balance, and to ensure that we shared a common vision for the final look and feel of the nursery. Neetu had already chosen the white nursery furniture from Izziwotnot, so we set to work on sourcing the right mix of accessories that would work together visually, bringing the story and theme to life exactly as she had imagined. Dream Clouds and Elephants Grey and Yellow Nursery, nursery design by Bobby RabbitThe room is lovely and bright, with a feature wall directly opposite the entrance. Neetu was keen to give this wall some character and focus, so we decided on a geometric wallpaper that would break up the rest of the grey walls and provide a backdrop for the room without being too overpowering. Having researched various chevron, harlequins and stripes, she chose a grey and white stripe by Casadeco - simple and smart, whilst allowing for bolder patterns within the rest of the nursery.

The grey elephant cot bed fitted sheet by London design studio Lulu and Nat worked really well with the bright yellow elephant cushion and matching lamp shade from Hunky Dory Home, and these, together with the personalised initial wall art and the beautiful felt mobile (both sourced on Etsy) set off the elephant theme just perfectly.

The adorable handmade felt cloud mobiles pictured below were created especially for Ashwin, with grey, yellow and gold raindrops suspended from two beautiful little clouds. The simplicity of the chevron pattern coming through in the storage bag and throw is a lovely complement to the intricacy and detail of the elephants and the clouds.

Next came the nursing chair (and if you have ever googled 'nursing chairs UK', you'll know that finding a stylish, non-bulky one can be somewhat of a challenge). This one from Habitat isn't actually a nursing chair, but we fell in love with it, especially when we saw that it came with a matching footstool - perfect! Not only it is super comfy and stylish, creating a cosy corner in which to relax, feed and cuddle, but it adds a touch of simple Scandinavian chic to the room whilst blending perfectly with the colour scheme: Dream Clouds and Elephants Grey and Yellow Nursery, nursery design by Bobby RabbitMaximising the use of a smaller space is a challenge faced in many nurseries. By keeping the focus on the back wall and ensuring that both the cot bed and the chair fitted into that area allowed us to use the alcove in the back wall for the wardrobe and laundry storage. Dream Clouds and Elephants Grey and Yellow Nursery, nursery design by Bobby RabbitWe loved creating this nursery. And when the photos arrived in our inbox the other day, we were even more thrilled with the end result. Neetu loves it, little Ashwin loves it too. And as he grows older, the room can be accessorised and re-accessorised without the need for major redecoration. For that's the beauty of using simple pattern and a neutral colour palette to set the scene - the whole room can be changed easily, inexpensively and whenever you wish, simply by switching the accessories.

But for now it's Dream Clouds and Elephants. A room that will grow up with Ashwin just perfectly.
